FROM THE PRESIDENT – August 2008

The Race for the Gold!  Is anyone else an Olympics fanatic like me?  I just love the Olympics and stay glued to the TV for the duration.  I have always admired the strict discipline these athletes put themselves through to be the best.  I wish I had had such discipline in sports during my high school years as well as in other non-sports areas of my life today.  Just think of what you could accomplish with such self-control and the unfailing support of your "coaches" and "teammates".

We apologize that the directories were not ready for the July meeting.  They will be at the August meeting or in the mail if you can’t come. I would like to thank Ramona Coffman for her hard work on this.

We will be playing "People Bingo" at our August meeting.  This is a networking exercise.  We played this at our membership reception and it was well liked.  Rhonda is going to come up with some new categories though.  This exercise will allow us to learn some different things about members other than where they work.  Check out the AWN Calendar or the Area Events calendar to see what else is going on.

The mentoring program is about to get underway. Ashley Jackson has volunteered to be the new mentoring chairperson.  Mentors will be needed from all fields of business.  This is a great opportunity to help a young person by giving them the information they need to make rational career choices.  You may volunteer on-line or print out a mentor application and send it in.

Now is the time to start thinking of those deserving women to nominate for a career or lifetime achievement award.  Applications are being accepted now and selections will be made in December.  You may print an application and send it in before December 1.

We are accepting donations for the silent auction in conjunction with our annual Christmas Luncheon.  If you have something you would like to donate or would be willing to solicit donations from other businesses, contact Carol Autry or Cynthia Hixon .

Tip of the month: One of our members brought this website to my attention.  It has some great resources from how to earn money from home, professional dress, to help with preparing for an interview.  Check it out http://womenforhire.com/.

Our sympathies go out to the family of one of our members, Mary Beth Crawford. Mary Beth passed away on August 6.

See you August 29th.

Lynn Burns, President
